Not for everyone - Review of Barcelo Maya Palace, Puerto Aventuras. I did a lot of research on all- inclusives- I travel quite a bit and at least once a year we try and do something really fun and I expect things to be, well nice. I do consider myself a hotel snob- I don't mean to but I notice this when we stay somewhere that is less the . I know you can't get these things everywhere but it's how I rate the hotels overall. I will do my best to break this hotel out by it's different offerings and offer pictures as well. HOTEL- this is a group of 6 hotels. He teamed up with P.J. It is always worth a visit up the narrow stairs. Island-Life will shut down for a couple of. They pulled several hose lines and attacked the fire and used saws and tools to force entry. Think of it like a long city block with one hotel next to the next one and so on. All of them have beach front rooms, large pools, bars, restaurants, kid activities and kid pools. Some offer a bit more some a bit less. You can always go down to the next hotel but they say you cannot go up. So we stayed at the Maya Palace Deluxe which is the 6th of all hotels so we had access to enjoy any of the other locations but the vendors and guests were not allowed at ours. I did not notice anyone checking other than maybe when you get towels. What was nice about this feature is that we were the only location that did not have vendors- all the others did (hena tattoos, pottery, braids, vendors selling stuff). We walked over to the location next to us to enjoy this but never had them at our pool. Each hotel has 3 restaurants see that info below. And I believe 2 of the hotels this one being one of those 2 has a kids water slide area- see below for pool info. Side note as this is the most expensive of all of the resorts in this collection I think it kept the annoying 1. I mean fun loving young adults =) further down the beach. Check In/ Check out- This process was easy for us- we chose to upgrade to Club Premium- what did this get us? Faster check in but... The upgrade did offer us a better location 3rd floor (top floor) of the building by the beach/ pool. See below as to why this makes a difference.
Club Premium also allows for free wifi- savings of close to $5. ROOMS- We had a room in the building closest to the ocean/ main pool. We had the Jr Suite Deluxe Ocean Front- we did not have a clear view of the ocean but we could see it and we were the building right by the pool. This is KEY very important for a few reasons- most important the TOWEL GAME. I woke up early (of course) every day on our trip and would head to the pool at 5: 3. A you would not have a good spot, no shade and an odd area of one of the pools. Be it as it is- there is no way for the hotel to control this and we learned on day 1 when we came down at 7ish and realized there was no where for us to sit but the sun at the other side of the pool by the kids water park. Word to the wise- get down there EARLY to get a shade spot! Room was nice had a sitting area with two lounge type . Room was plenty big enough! Only complaint was the wifi- it worked just fine but only one user at a time can be on it- well that was a pain!!! We managed because we were not going to pay $5. POOLs- they have the largest pools on all properties never will pool space be an issue! Swim up bar, people bringing you drinks also a walk up bar by the pool. Our resort had the large wrap around pool and a kids water park. Our water park was geared to younger kids but two hotels over (about a 1. By all the resports pools there is basketball, shuffleboard, large chess, darts and bowling. Our resort also had an activities pool right there by the main one which we enjoyed a fun family style in water basketball game. No complaints about pool or service. I do suggest to tip your bar and servers at the end of your stay- they all work very hard and happy to help you! RESTAURANTS- our hotel had 3- Caribbean, Brazilian and French. We ate at the Caribbean one which offered a more bland variety of food but still very good (lobster, crab, steak even) then the Brazilian- good- we did the skewers and they had a lot of meat- all good no complaints not fantastic but fun to get dressed up and go to dinner. We did not try the French. HOWEVER note 2 VERY IMPORTANT THINGS- you MUST reserve your dinners when you check in. We went back the next day to try and reserve the Mexican restaurant on the other property and everything was sold out. I would not say we were an overly booked hotel at all so busy times must be even worse. So be prepared to pick times and days for dinner in advance!! ALSO there are buffets during the day and always an option at night. For this hotel the buffet at night was AMAZING!!! On Friday they served full lobsters! The variety was great and if you went to dinner a little later in the evening sometimes 7. P sometimes 8. P they opened a second buffet called the Hacienda and the food and salsas there were fantastic! Plenty for the kids- burgers, dogs, a pasta bar- they would ALWAYS make you a quesadilla if you asked.. We were PLENTY happy eating at the buffet!!! The servers were always SPOT on to help you, get your drinks- you can't go wrong- just relax and enjoy! ALCOHOL- They had top self items- were free flowing only negative was their beer was typical Bud Light style beers and the wine was pretty bad- but hey have awesome margaritas and Miami Vice- they have a great selection of hard alcohol so no worries about the drinks (unless you only like beer and wine)BEACH- the beach was beautiful to look at but the clarity the week we were there made for bad snorkel conditions. HOWEVER even though we saw fish and a turtle or two see my snorkel review on Riviera Adventours there is NO BETTER way to spend half your day then going with this local group to snorkel local cenotes underground, Akumal Beach for MANY turtles, they will even add a stop at Tulum- HIGHLY recommend this excursion for real snorkeling. The beach at the hotel was ALWAYS clean, chairs always nicely lined up, the sand was incredibly soft (like blended- it was amazing) the water was so beautiful to look at and so warm to swim in- just note not the best location for snorkeling but definitely a great way to spend your afternoons! WALKING- This is a walking hotel! If you want to be close to everything then this is not the hotel for you. We were lucky to have a room right at the beach/ pool- the rooms back would take you forever to walk to and hard if you had a kid that wanted to run to the room for something. Even though our room was the closest building we still walked about 1. I do not view this as a negative but it would probably take 3. It's a long area and they do have shuttles but really each location has everything you need so it's not a necessity to walk the entire 6 resorts unless you wanted to. The only complaints I could see were families who had rooms further away from the beach and pool- to get to that daily with kids and bags and then needing to go back would be a pain!! I say spend the extra and be up front!!! EXTRAS, ACTIVITIES, VENDORS- Like I said earlier our hotel is the only hotel out of the 6 that does not allow vendors which was nice but if you settle down and relax and never go walk you kind of miss some of the options the resort offers. There is a pool with dolphins in which you can pay to swim with them or watch a show. Coming from California we have seen and done this and actually thought it was super sad to see so many dolphins in one area. They also have a pier about 1. The spa offers the traditional items and also hair braiding ($5 a braid) and they have a tank of fish that you can pay to have your feel put in and they eat the dead skin off your feet- a cool pedicure!!! Also about middle of the resort are vendors including hena tattoo and pottery, bracelets etc. Then if you make your way all the way to the end of the resort they have ATV and segways for rent. They allow kids 1. HUGE hit for my kids. Also they have a soccer area, a mini golf area, an xbox/ game room and a shopping center closer to the end of the resort opposite of Maya Deluxe. Excursions you can book these through the hotel or on your own- we did 2 fantastic ones- one with: Riviera Adventours look them up on Trip Advisor and see the amazing reviews including mine! I also added pictures BEST snorkel adventure day we have ever had and again I am from California so I have seen some amazing things! We visited http: //www. This was also an AMAZING trip! See that review for pictures as well.
